Is Kate ready for Rice Cereal?

It all started when Rusty and I sat down for dinner. Kate was getting antsy for some attention. So, being the good parents that we are, we put her in her new bumbo seat so she can sit next to us while we eat. Our little girl is smart and knew that we were eating dinner and she wanted some too. Recently Rusty and I have had the "is she ready for rice cereal conversation" many times. I want to wait until her 6 month Dr. Appointment. Rusty says she is ready now. Back to dinner....Kate is now fussy and wanting some attention and/or food. I kindly reach over to the stack of magazines sitting by the fireplace and hand her the latest National Geographic Magazine which just came in the mail. (Let me preface this by saying that I didn't just give her the National Geographic Magazine because it was on top. I logically thought this through, she can either have the Church News or National Geographic. The Church news will probably get soggy in a matter of minutes and leave her mouth an ashy gray. However, the National Geographic is not only printed on high quality paper, it is filled with close up photographs of a variety of species of frogs found only in Ecuador. The frogs will surely keep her interest.) Needless to say, she gladly takes the magazine and is now satisfied with herself. Rusty and I both satisfied as well, continue eating. Minutes pass and when we are done, I look back to Kate who has eaten the front cover off of the National Geographic Magazine so much so that I can no longer tell on what page to find the Polar Bear Paradise highlighted in the issue. I think nothing of the magazine cover again until the next day. Can you guess what I found while changing Kate's dirty diaper? Yes, a piece of paper! The kid actually ate and digested a portion of the National Geographic Cover. I had to concede and admit to Rusty that if her body can handle high quality glossy print paper, then surely she can handle eating a little rice cereal.

Here she is before the cereal. Notice she is fully clothed. I wanted to strip her down, anticipating the mess she would make. Rusty wanted to leave her dress on since she was already dirty. Obviously Rusty is not the one who does the laundry at our house. Also, you can tell by the picture that she is going to be a pro golfer when she grows up, because of the massive grip she has on that spoon!

All done! She ate it. She loved it. She was ready.

Emmie and Kate must be related. Emmie consumed the front cover of my Better Homes and Gardens.

LOL Too cute. Come over to our place and Gabi will teach Kate the fine art of eating books. Yes she likes to chew off corners of books. Bleh. I guess I cant complain she is not a picky eater when it comes to real food!
